Does my phone support eSIM?
JetSimly · 2026-10-11
iPhone XR/XS (2018) and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer, and Pixel 3 and newer support eSIM. The phone must not be carrier-locked, and most iPhones sold in mainland China have no eSIM. Check the list below, then do the two-minute check on your own phone.
The two-minute check
1. Look for an EID. A phone with eSIM has a 32-digit EID number. On iPhone, Settings → General → About shows an "EID" row. On Samsung, look under Settings → About phone → Status information; the menu name can differ between One UI versions. Dialing *#06# also shows the EID next to the IMEI on most models.
2. Look for the "add eSIM" option.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- Samsung and most Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. The menu name can differ slightly by model.
If the option is there, the phone supports eSIM.
3. Is the phone unlocked? A third-party eSIM needs a phone that isn't locked to a carrier. A phone bought directly from Apple, Samsung or Google is almost certainly unlocked. If you bought it from a carrier on a contract, ask them to unlock it before you buy.
iPhone
Apple's page lists iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), XR, XS, XS Max and every series from the 11 to the 16, including the 16e, as supporting eSIM, except phones bought in China.

| iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max | |
| iPhone Duo (foldable, on sale from 23 October 2026) |
iPhones sold in Turkey have both a nano-SIM slot and eSIM, so you can use the eSIM alongside your own line. In some countries (the US, for example) some recent models are eSIM-only, which can matter for a phone bought abroad. The iPhone Air is eSIM-only everywhere.
According to Apple, only the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM in mainland China; the Chinese versions of other models have none. If you bought a phone abroad, secondhand or from an unofficial seller, check which country it was made for (Settings → General → About → Model number).

"Varies by region" means the same phone can have eSIM in one country's version and not in another's. For those, the EID check settles it.
